A last minute day trip to La Jolla, CA resulted in one of the highlights of the week. Nicknamed the Jewel City, La Jolla is a charming seaside community of San Diego that is visually stunning.
Lunch – Cody’s La Jolla. We arrived at La Jolla Cove just in time for lunch. We briefly researched a few places of interest, but mostly allowed ourselves to wander. We stop for a quick bite at Cody’s La Jolla – a little cottage turned restaurant with amazing, fresh food, excellent service and a direct coastal view of Ellen Browning Scripps Park.
We ordered the Lemon Thyme and White Sangria Champagne Spritzers with an order of Calamari. The spritzers were refreshing and vibrant, they truly hit the spot. The Calamari was the best calamari I’ve ever had, hands down. They must have been picked out of the ocean that morning. Cut in strips instead of rings and lightly breaded. They were so meaty, it was almost like eating chicken tenders. I ordered the Lobster Roll (Maine lobster and green onions, stuffed in a griddled brioche, lightly tossed in butter and aioli, served with hand-cut french fries and coleslaw) and my daughter the Griddled Crab Cakes (jumbo lump crab cakes, baby greens, watercress, lemon basil, and sriracha aioli). That Lobster Roll was ridiculous! I was transported to Maine. As soon as it came out, my mouth began to water. So tender and delicately dressed nestled over a fresh, toasted brioche bun. My mouth is watering again as I’m thinking about it. My daughter felt the same way about her crab cakes (and she’s partial to my crab cakes). We savored each bite, and chewed slowly to make it last. We loved Cody’s! Amazing food, friendly staff and beautiful scenery. It’s a shame they close at 3 pm, we would have stayed for dinner too. If you visit La Jolla, stop by Cody’s. You won’t be disappointed!

Crab Cakes They have my vote! Pet friendly place!
We strolled over to Ellen Browning Scripps Park and made our way to the cove. The seals, sea lions, seagulls on the rocks with the Pacific waves crashing behind them was picture perfect. Never had I been so close to wild animals without a barrier. The cove was crowded with people snapping selfies, while the ocean had its share of surfers and paddle boarders. What a perfect day!

If you’re ever in the San Diego area, I highly suggest venturing out to La Jolla. I can’t wait until I return.
