Summerween is in the rearview mirror, but as fall approaches, I’m thinking all things spooky and Halloween again. Summer will soon come to an end and the cool air with be crisp and cold again. But while the gardens are still green, why not start this year’s Halloween tablescape series in the garden? Garden parties are so lovely and this one captures the spooky vibes with the vibrant greens of the season. This is a perfect setting for a fun gathering with friends, day or night.
INSPIRATION
I was inspired by the constant state of summertime in south Florida. We have an abundance of heat, humidity, rain and greenery! Why not bring the skulls and potions out into the sunshine? Truth be told, today was overcast.
HOW I STYLED IT
This is a glass table and I wanted to keep it light and airy. I draped a cob web tablecloth to let the brick pavers show through. The place setting was simple – a black charger, my DIY Faux Greenery placemat, the Royal Stafford skull dinner plates, flatware and stemware. These plates are so adorable! She has a fascinator, he a bowler hat with a floral design in black and gold. There are so many ways to style a table using these plates!
Shown above you’ll see the front and back side of the table. It’s important to add visual interest to all aspects of the centerpiece for your guests to enjoy. I started by adding the books and plant for visual height and interest. I added items of about the same scale to each side – on the left, a skull and small plant, and on the right, a grapevine moss ball with another small plant. This added balance and anchored the ends. Once this was set, the rest was adding in fillers.
Faux flowers and leaves were tucked in among the real plants, along with candles, spiders, a friendly ghost (inside the moss ball) with a black crow (on top), and a small garden bird at the end. I shifted the book slightly to add two small poison bottles and added moss to create the centerpiece. These poison bottles are vanilla extract bottle! I simply removed the label and added a poison label. You can buy Halloween bottle labels at craft stores or make your own.
A simple knot on the napkin, silverware and my green vintage glassware to finish the setting. This table is charming! Perfect for a lunch, brunch or any spooky gathering. As the sun sets, you can add votive candles to create more ambiance for an evening gathering. I just love this garden setting and I hope it inspires you to create your own.
