My second Halloween tablescape, in this year’s series. Tablescapes can be so much fun to put together – especially Halloween ones. I spotted these plates in an end cap at HomeGoods and immediately loaded them up on my cart. I love the colors, the design and I immediately knew I wanted something spooky yet elegant for an adult dinner party. I love how it turned out with dark and moody colors! Even my mother, who is anti-Halloween, loved this tablescape.
THIS IS HOW I STYLED IT
My HomeGoods is next to JoAnn Fabrics so I popped in and purchased two yards of this gorgeous black embroidered fabric. An embroidered fabric adds texture to the table and this one gives the illusion of a tangled web. Oh the conversations we could have around this dinner table just talking about the tangled webs we weave!
I layered my DIY Faux Greenery Placemats over a galvanized metal charger and then set the dinner plate, napkin and dessert plate. I love how the greenery adds color and contrasts agains the black and just makes the plates pop. The purple napkins and wine goblets enhance the moody feel I was going for. Stainless steel forks and a black handle knife complete the setting.
Just look at the detail on these plates! The witch’s lair is filled with items to draw inspiration from for the centerpiece and room decor. If you notice there’s amber in the plates, I could have gone with amber and gold tones as well.
In the spirit of using-what-I-have, I filled these apothecary jars with moss, eyeball orbs, skulls and spiders over a vintage silver tray and scattered some moss. Crystal candle holders, black candles with a few wayward spiders and eyeball obs finished the look. I love finding ways to reuse and style items I have in a new and fun way. It’s just part of the creative process.
If you don’t have apothecary jars try gathering them in bowls or stacking them. You can also stack books, brown pharmacy bottles with poison labels. etc. Think of what you have and how you can use it.
The rest of the dining room also received some attention. On the bar cart (shown above left) you can see a skull head bust peeking over the top of the seat. I added small ceramic ghosts and pumpkins inside the china cabinet. In the cabinet’s opening, I added a stack of books and rested a skull on top. You can’t see it, but is adds to the spooky ambiance.
