In keeping with my coastal tablescape series that’s leading up to my Tropical Christmas tablescape, I bring you two versions in this post of a neutral coastal tablescape. Inspired by all the Nancy Meyers movies – this neutral coastal color palette is as soothing as an ocean breeze. I absolutely love Nancy Meyers movies and her design style – classic elegance, layered textures, neutral colors with a casual sophistication that’s warm, inviting and homey in an elevated way. Movies like Somethings Gotta Give, Father of the Bride, Parent Trap and Home Again have established her as an iconic filmmaker and her movie set interiors are some of the most copied in homes across America.
HERE’S HOW I SET IT
VERSION # 1 This flowing white gauze table runner reminds me of the foaming waves as they crash on the beach. A white ceramic vase anchors the table with a few floral springs that remind me of dried costal foliage. Scattered shells, sea stars and two boat dip bowls fill in the spaces.
Seagrass woven drinking glasses and pitcher tie into the seagrass placemats. A stone blue pinstripe napkin, reminiscent of the area rug in Something’s Gotta Give, is gathered in hyacinth napkin ring and decorated with a simple seashell. Neutral creamy plates and bamboo flatware complete the neutral and casual aesthetic.
VERSION #2 By swapping out the seagrass woven glassware for vintage glassware, it elevates it slightly. Using vintage pieces brings home those nostalgic memories of past family gatherings and those who owned them. If you have any of grandma dishes, glasses or flatware, use it! Not only will it be beautiful but, it creates lasting family traditions.
This is such a beautiful and clean look. Perfect for any meal with family and friends. This is suited for outdoor or indoors. I would have wanted to show you this table outside, but our Florida weather has been crazy hot, humid and raining. Completely unbearable. If setting up outside, try adding a little sand to the table for an authentic coastal vibe.
I hope you’re inspired to create your own beautiful neutral tablescape. For more inspiration, take a look at my other tablescapes.
