Decorating a table for any event always makes the event extra special and sets the party spirit! This year our traditional BBQ pool party with family was scratched due to COVID-19. While it was a celebration for four, I wanted it to be a patriotic red, white and blue festive table.
What’s a summer 4th of July BBQ party if not outside by the pool? We have an old (old!) iron table and chairs with a glass top that needed a covering. Sometimes, you can find a great fabric at a craft store and hem the edge for a great tablecloth, but I found an inexpensive red tablecloth. I liked the deep red color and it was ready to go.
A simple red, white and blue table runner adds a contrasting pop of color. Three Rae Dunn candle lanterns with a rope handle made great vases for patriotic fresh flowers from the grocery store. Rattan stars and decorative red, white and blue gems were scatters about the table runner. Simple white plates on top of galvanized windmill iron chargers with pretty stars napkins with a beautiful red crochet detailed edge add to the theme. The festive napkin ring holders are patriotic ribbon hair ties! Can you believe it? They were exactly what I had in mind for napkin ring holders – I just didn’t know I would find them in the beauty section. I think it completes the table setting and adds a touch of whimsy.
This rustic metal tray has a French wine barrel vintage stamp on it, but it was the perfect size so I covered it up with an extra napkin. Since we were only four, I placed our assorted drinks at the corner of the table. I made a Spiked Lemonade and poured it in a litre bottle and decorated it with a red star charm bracelet. The poured lemonade was garnished with a simple cherry on a patriotic pick and a lemon slice. This drink was so refreshing!
It must have been about 100°F poolside and the forecast said to expect afternoon thunderstorms. I set my table earlier in the day and just as I finished grilling, it started to sprinkle and eventually the storm rolled through. Never a dull day in south Florida!
I wasn’t able to take more pictures, but I hope these images are a source of inspiration as you pull together your own tablescape and party ideas. Wishing you and yours a happy and safe Independence Day celebration!
