Who doesn’t love a good margarita and taco? Cinco de mayo is a great way to take a culinary journey to Mexico and sample a culture rich in history through food. Known for spicy foods and tequila, there’s a lot more to Mexican foods and each region has their own food. Much of what we eat in the states is Tex-Mex food, but still the vibrant pops of citrus and spice come through. Below is my outdoor cinco de mayo tablescape for six.
HERE’S HOW I MADE IT
I placed this cotton serape table runner down the center of the table. Added colorful and textured glass vases with colorful flowers from the grocery store and even filled a tomato can with extra flowers. I always like to set out all the flowers.
Added a mini-piñata and maracas from a party supply store, a red ceramic cross and cactus salt and pepper shakers for added visual interest in line with the theme.
Place setting: A cactus melamine plate sits atop of red ceramic plates over a natural woven placemat. I used two sets of napkins – one that matched the runner and a solid color that matched the table runner.
Mexican glassware is wonderful and I love these green rimmed glasses. Mexican glass is thick and heavy. They are very nice to hold and drink from. I filled these with my Paloma Cocktail.
This tablescape was set for family-style dinning, so there’s plenty of space on the table for serving platters. If you’re not serving family-style, fill the spaces with extra flowers, cactus, hot peppers, lanterns, candles and other lovely items that add interest and purpose. There’s no wrong way to set your table and there are so many options.
I hope you enjoyed this tablescape and draw inspiration for your own tablescape or cinco de mayo party.
