Last year I hosted a casual alfresco Easter lunch and egg hunt and I’m just getting around to writing the post. It was a spectacular day – breezy, cool and not a cloud in the sky. I could not have asked for a more beautiful day. In addition to hiding countless plastic eggs throughout the garden for a very precocious three year old, I created this eclectic and festive table with a lot of whimsy.
I used what I had and mixed, matched and layered to create a lovely setting. My inspiration for this tablescape was my Churchill Vegetable Patch plates I purchased about 30 years ago at Pier 1 Imports. These plates are discontinued, but you can probably source them on eBay, Replacements LTD and thrift stores. I love the colors and the beautiful vegetable designs around the plate.
A burlap table runner was set down the middle of the table along with a felt carrots garland I picked up at HomeGoods. My two Essex bunnies took center stage on the table with some scattered palm fronds for a touch of greenery. Chocolate candies, bunnies and pretzels were tucked here and there and I used Scrabble tiles to write He Is Risen and Happy Easter on opposite ends of the table runner.
An Essex bunnies sits in a lattice milk glass bowl surrounded by moss and eggs. If you look closely, you can see a few special dyed eggs with stickers made for the family by our darling little boy.
My vegetable patch plates were set over a rattan charger, with a white napkin and an adorable burlap bunny. The burlap bunnies were actually a garland I bought at HomeGoods. I simply removed the string and glued a white pom-pom for a tail. Vintage amber glasses and a champagne clear glass rounded out the setting in addition to my Flatasy gold bamboo flatware.
Wishing you and yours a happy Easter! I hope you find inspiration in this tablescape as you use what you have to create something special.
