No other holiday brings family and friends around a bounty of food to give thanks to God for a year of blessings. What an amazing country we live in and what a wonderful tradition. The first Thanksgiving was inspirational and it set the tone for a blessed and grateful nation.
We have a large extended family. Usually we are twenty or more at any given holiday, but this year was different. We celebrated an early and intimate family Thanksgiving when my daughter came to visit, and I brought a dessert and sangria to my cousin’s house on the actual day. No matter the size or date of your gathering; we should always count our blessing and have a spirit of gratitude. Not just at Thanksgiving, but especially at Thanksgiving. We have much to be grateful for, I know I do.
When planning our Thanksgiving menu, we usually stick to a bounty of traditional favorites – we call it our hit parade. A turkey, ham with lots of sides and desserts! Sometimes it looks like a smorgasbord, but we wouldn’t want it any other way.
This was our 2019 menu for our party of five:
Roasted Turkey Breast with Black Truffle Butter
Peach Apricot Glazed Ham
Poblano Pepper, Corn and Roasted Pecan Sauté
Sausage Apple Cranberry Cornbread Dressing
Best Ever Gourmet Sweet Potato Casserole
Green Bean Casserole
Creamy Mashed Potato with Gravy
Classic Cranberry Sauce
Pumpkin Pie
Pecan Pie
It’s a lot of food! With all the holiday decorating and shopping, the leftovers came in handy. Who doesn’t love to cook once and stretch it out over a few days? I wish I had better pictures, but we were very hungry and I was only able to snap these on my iPhone. Recipes without a link are not on the blog yet. As I post them, I’ll update here as well.
A little bit of everything to enjoy. Pumpkin Pie with Cranberry Sauce – so good!!
Dessert and Sangria I brought to my cousin’s home:
